"You can ensure a smooth trip trough Ecuador if you contact Santiago Guamaní. He is a delightful young man (married to an American) who speaks perfect English and can book your hotel rooms for you. He will drive you anywhere at any time and even meet you at the airport. And can make hotel reservations easier and often at lower rate than you can. It can be difficult to get reliable reservation outside of Ecuador when you´re trying to book them yourself, and any event you´ll need transportation to these places.

You will find it more expensive to rent a car than it is to make use of Santiago´services. And he know the way. Although there is no danger in your driving around, road signs are infrequent, and without local knowledge, you´ll likely find Ecuador a driver´s nightmare.
